Tornado & Flood Response
Recent storms have caused significant damage throughout Midwest and southern states.  The current request is for Early Response Teams carrying UMCOR certification badges.  Recovery and Rebuild teams will be needed in the future, but it will be a few months before these teams can begin their work.  If you are ERT certified and would like to respond please contact phelps@umocm.com or baker@umocm.com.  If you would like to know what else you can do to assist those surviving these disasters please visit the Creative Ministries website at www.umocm.com

Della Lamb in Kansas City:
Della Lamb provides low-income families in the Kansas City area with early education, child care, youth services, adult services, adult education, transportation, emergency social services, international refugee services, Elementary Charter School education, back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving groceries and Christmas groceries and gifts.  Della Lamb Community Services is eager to offer volunteer experiences to adults and youth of Missouri at anytime of the year. Camp Mekokiko Hawaii
Dwayne Abbot will lead a mission to Camp Mekokiko on Big Island, Hawaii January 6-23, 2012.  The cost of the trip is approximately $1,800 dollars.  The work at the camp can range anywhere from landscaping and brush clearing to painting and possibly construction.  We will take part in worship at local churches on Sundays with the possibility of a carry in dinner at the church closest to the camp.  There will also be plenty of time for sight seeing on the Big Island.  For more information please contact Dwayne Abbott at dca4568@hotmail.com or by phone at 573-897-3210.
 
Missions to Haiti:
JoAnn Dimmitt will lead a VIM team of 10 from the Kansas West Conference for earthquake response in Haiti June 5-13, 2011.  If you are interested in joining this team please contact JoAnn at 785-493-8286 or jadimmitt@sbcglobal.net.  

Sheryl Crooks will lead a VIM team to Haiti June 14-22, 2011.  The cost is $1,800.  For more information contact Sheryl at 785-499-3523 (preferred contact) or email scrooks@cgrove417.org

August 6-13, 2011 Don Henry of Burlington, Iowa will lead an earthquake response team.  The Cost is 1,650.00 per person.  Travel to/from St. Louis and meals in US are at personal expense.  For applications and questions, contact Don at thewriteidea@mchsi.com or 319-752-2357.
  
Bethlehem Bible College:
On October 21-November 1, 2011 a Louisiana VIM team will be serving in Bethlehem. The mission trip will cost $2945 per team member.  The team will primarily be working at Bethlehem Bible College (www.bethbc.org) doing maintenance work, light construction, cleanup, painting, office work, and assisting students and faculty in various daily activities. The team will live on campus at the BBC guest house, which allows everyone to experience a wonderful immersion with Christians living at the place of Jesus' birth.  If you are interested in serving Christians behind the wall, contact Reverend Ray Varnado at revrayvarnado@bellsouth.net or by cell phone

Green Mission to Guatemala
Bill Perry of  Beaverdam, VA will lead a mission to Guatemala August 13-20, 2011.  This team is a mixture of young adults and adults and will work in indigenous communities in Xela, Guatemala building improved, fuel efficient stoves, as well as reforestation work.  No skills in masonry or Spanish language are required.  The trip cost is $985 plus airfare.  For more information contact Rachel Triplett at Rachel@highlandsupportproject.org

Upcoming Trainings

ERT Basic Training
This is specialized training for teams responding in the early stages of a disaster following the emergency response phase.  Training will be held July 16th at the Missouri United Methodist Conference Office in Columbia, MO.  The cost per person is $36/person.  Please pre-register at www.umocm.com/vim/page7/page7.html.

SERVE2011 Registration Open
In our April newsletter we shared with you information about a Conference wide weekend of service to be held September 10 & 11, 2011.  This is an opportunity for every United Methodist in Missouri to be in mission, serving their community, with their community all at the same time.  Packets of promotional information went out to each United Methodist Church in Missouri last week so please look for those.  Registration is now open.  The first 20 churches to register will receive 10 free SERVE2011 t-shirts.  For more information on how you can serve your community through SERVE2011 visit www.serve2011.org
