February 5 - "Disciplined Study", Matthew 28:16-20
In the Great Commission, Jesus charged his followers with a specific task – “Go and make disciples”. This command has determined (or ought to have determined!) the mission of every church in every place in every time. The United Methodist Church states emphatically that “The mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world”. But if you think about it, that statement should make you ask two very important questions. First, what, exactly IS a disciple? And secondly, and perhaps more importantly, how on earth do you MAKE them? Today we’ll begin investigating the answers to these questions that probe deep into the heart of our Christian faith.

February 12 - "Intimate Family Life", 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 To love another means to choose to do what is best for another, and we can always choose to love someone, because love is of God, and because God never stops giving us love, we have an infinite supply of love to give away. To be sure, we can choose to stop giving love away, but it can never end. What our culture has come to call love is based on pure emotion and therefore it tends to be short-term, fickle, and very changeable. It tends to be very ME oriented. People want to be in a loving relationship as long as they are GETTING what they want, and when they are no longer getting what they want, then they get out! But that is the whole point, and that is the whole problem! You see, love is not about getting, it’s about giving.

February 19 - "Sacrificial Giving" - Matthew 13:44 Jesus' disciples left everything to follow him. They sacrificed all they had for something greater. Jesus' words reveal to us what we truly treasure. We must learn that what you get from giving is better than what you get from getting.

February 26 - "Corporate Worship", Revelation 15:2-4 Every Sunday we gather here to celebrate our great victory. Now we did not win the victory, but the victory that was won by Jesus alone is made ours---He shares it with us by His grace! And, when you and I celebrate that victory, we are bowled over by the loving, gracious, holy, magnificent presence of God, and when we encounter the loving presence of God, all those selfish desires to be entertained, and coddled, and in control begin to dissipate, and you and I begin to truly worship, in spirit and in truth.

March 4 - "Imitates Christ," John 8:12 Jesus Christ, the Son of God, calls us to imitate His life and His ways. So, as His followers, we must obey---but in order to do that we need a clear understanding of what it means to really ‘follow’ Christ. What sacrifices would I have to make in order to truly follow? What barriers are there that prevent me from wholeheartedly imitating Christ Jesus? That’s a challenge for us all. And a wake up call – for if we are not prepared to imitate Christ and truly follow Him, whatever that may mean and wherever that may lead, we will never end up where we need to be and who we need to be.

March 11 - "Prayer", Mark 1:28-39 Have you ever simply spent time with someone, and you are both just quiet? You have no agenda, you have no need to fill the holy silence with mindless chatter---you simply enjoy being with each other? Maybe you have experienced this with your spouse, or holding your child in your lap, or at the bedside of your sick parent. That in large part is what prayer is all about. Quiet time with God, with no agenda, not need to DO anything, just quiet time with God to enjoy each other’s company.

March 18 - "Leadership" Leaders are not born, they choose to be. They are normal people who simply do what seems like the right thing at the time. No epiphanies, no blinding light, no booming voice from the sky, no curtain pulled back to reveal an applauding audience, no beneficiary openly weeping and singing praises about being pulled out of the gutter. Leadership is merely “doing the thing that lies next you”, which is often a quiet step into a world of new possibilities. The best leaders lead just by being—everything about them is a witness to the love and power of Christ in their lives.

March 25 - "Evangelism" 1 Peter 3:13-16 Disciples have a passion for God because they have experienced the fact that following Jesus Christ satisfies the deepest desires of the soul. What’s more, when they have had this deeply personal experience, they naturally want to tell other people, with joy and exuberance, how their lives have been impacted by the love of God in Christ. THAT is what evangelism is all about – the inner compulsion to share the good news – the gospel – of Jesus Christ.
